Our driveway is steep. Is resin bound actually safer in winter?
It gives you more grip than a smooth troweled slab, for two reasons. The finish is exposed natural stone with real texture rather than a flat skin, and because water drains through it there is no film running down the slope to glaze over after dark. That film is what makes a Pittsburgh drive dangerous in February. What it will not do is beat clear ice, and no exterior surface does. You still clear snow and use de-icer sparingly. Most people notice the difference the first wet morning.
There is a crack running across the middle of the drive. Is it a candidate?

Fit a rubber or poly cutting edge to any plow blade and set it slightly high on shoes so it rides rather than scrapes, which matters more on a slope where the blade wants to dig. Shovel with a poly or plastic blade. Spread de-icer thinly instead of by the scoop, and clear snow before it packs so you need less. Mark the edges of the drive before the first storm. Agree all of this with your plow contractor before winter, not during it.
