Why Nebraska driveways go gritty and break up at the edges
The damage comes from freezing water, not cold air. Concrete is porous and it soaks up rain, snow melt and the slush dropping off a vehicle in the garage. When that water freezes it expands and pushes out through the face of the slab. Nebraska crosses the freezing line over and over between November and March rather than freezing once and holding, so the surface gets worked repeatedly. Strip away the marketing and resin bound is simple: natural stone, a clear UV stable binder, mixed to ratio and hand troweled over concrete that is sound enough to build on. What comes out is one seamless, fully permeable surface with nothing loose in it.
It is worth knowing the difference from resin bonded before you get quotes, because installers use the terms loosely. Bonded means loose stone broadcast onto wet resin: rough underfoot, sheds grit and does not drain through. Bound means the stone is in the mix. Only the second one gives you a flat, permeable, joint free finish.

Maintenance and lifespan
Fifteen years and up is a realistic life on a properly installed surface, and looking after it is mostly a matter of keeping the pores open. Leaves, grass clippings and dust are what clog a permeable surface, so a blower or a stiff yard brush every few weeks does most of the work. A wash down once or twice a year handles the rest.
When you jet wash, use a wide fan tip and keep it a foot back. A turbo nozzle held close will strip resin off the top of the stone, and so will a wire brush or a strong solvent. Warm water and a soft brush deal with almost every spill. Nothing grows up through the surface, but seed can root in debris left sitting on it.
If a section ever does get damaged, resin bound is repairable. An approved installer can cut out and relay a patch using the same blend rather than replacing the whole surface.

Nebraska concrete resurfacing questions
This is a concrete town. Why would I put anything over concrete?
Because you are not replacing the concrete, you are protecting it. The slab underneath is still doing the structural job, and in most Nebraska driveways the only thing that has failed is the top half inch of surface. Resin bound puts a permeable, bound stone surface over that, so water drains through instead of soaking into the slab face and freezing. You keep the base you already paid for, skip demolition and disposal, and end up with a finish that does not scale every winter. If the slab is genuinely finished, we will tell you that instead.
Our downspouts and sump line have washed out the edge of the drive. Does this fix that?
It helps, but it is not a drainage system on its own and you should be careful of anyone who tells you it is. Concentrated water on loess or clay moves the soil out from under a slab edge, and that has to be dealt with at source. Extend the discharge, get water away from the slab, and repair the undermined section. Then a permeable surface stops adding to the problem, because water spreads down through it rather than sheeting off one edge. Tell your installer that water at the edge is the concern before they quote.
Hail is a fact of life here. What does it do to the surface?
Resin bound is a bound stone matrix rather than a thin film, so it does not chip and peel the way a painted or epoxy coating can, and there are no individual units to crack the way a tile or thin paver does. Severe hail marks plenty of exterior materials and we are not going to claim it is hail proof. What we will say is that the thing that actually destroys Nebraska driveways is water in the slab through a winter of freeze cycles, and that is the problem this is built to solve.
How much does concrete resurfacing cost in Nebraska?

Do we need a registered contractor in Nebraska?
Nebraska requires contractors to register with the Department of Labor, and there are details and exemptions attached, so do not assume anything about a specific job or business. Cities and counties add their own rules on top, and permits often apply where work touches an apron, curb cut or the public sidewalk because that strip may sit in the right of way. We park an RV and a boat trailer on the driveway. Is that a problem?
Weight on its own is not the issue. The surface is rated to hold up to 40,000 lbs when it is installed correctly at the right depth over a sound base, so an RV or a loaded trailer parked on it is well inside that. What you do want to watch is point loading. A tongue jack, a stabilizer foot or a jack stand puts a lot of weight through a couple of square inches. Put a pad or a block under anything like that, the same as you would on asphalt. Tell your installer where the RV sits and they will detail that area accordingly.
